Broad River Greenway, 704-434-2357 (Boiling Springs Town Hall). View the natural beauty of the Broad River located 3.3 miles south of Boiling Springs, NC on NC Hwy. 150. Canoeing, swimming, tubing, fishing, picnicking, hiking, bicycling and horse trails.
Hiking and Bridle at Old College Farm Trail, Broad River, Boiling Springs. Approximately 9 miles of moderate trail 3 miles south of Boiling Springs, NC near NC Hwy. 150. A multiple-use trail, mainly for hikers and equestrians, from rough footpaths to secondary roads in red clay soil. Developed on private property, the loop trail winds through the forest providing scenic views of the Broad River and Jolly Mountain. Kings Mountain National Military Park, Exit 8 on I-85 in Kings Mountain, NC to Hwy. 161. 864-936-7921. Open daily 9 - 5. Closed Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year's Day. Site of a sudden yet decisive victory of patriot frontiersmen over a British force of Loyalists. It was the "turn of the tide" for the Revolutionary War. Begin at the Visitor Center where exhibits and film help interpret the battle; then walk the trail which takes you to the battlefield.
Kings Mountain State Park, Exit 8 on I-85 in Kings Mountain, NC to Hwy. 161, 803-222-3209. "Living History Farm," picnic areas, camping, bridle trails, nature/hiking trails, fishing and swimming.
Crowders Mountain State Park, Route 1, Kings Mountain, NC, 704-853-5375. Exit I-85 at US 29/74. This 2,148-acre park is characterized by rugged peaks and breathtaking views. Hiking, picnicking, bird watching. Located between Kings Mountain and Gastonia; offers a 16.93-mile scenic drive (SR 1125, SR 1104, SR 2292, NC Hwy. 161 ending at I-85 in Kings Mountain).
South Mountain State Park, 828-433-4772. Located in southwestern Burke County and part of Cleveland County. Nature/hiking trails, bridle trails, mountain bike trails, camping, fishing and picnic areas. From Shelby, take NC Hwy. 226 to Marion on the scenic byway (34.10 miles) to enjoy the views of South Mountain, upper piedmont farmlands and glimpses of the Appalachian Mountains.
The Overmountain Victory National Historic Trail (OVNHT) commemorates the campaign leading to the battle of Kings Mountain by following the Revolutionary War route of Patriot militia men from Virginia, today's eastern Tennessee, North Carolina, and South Carolina to the battle site at Kings Mountain National Military Park in South Carolina.
